I-90 West of George Paving - Warm Mix Asphalt
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) paved about 5,000 tons of warm mix asphalt (WMA) as part of their I-90 West of George Pav...
Promote sustainable site vegetation that does not require irrigation.
Site vegetation shall be subject to the following requirements in order to receive the points listed:

Pg 2 Approaches & Strategies
Include planting bed preparation and/or topsoil requirements as part of the development of the site specific vegetation strategy.
Pg 2 Approaches & Strategies
Include the long term maintenance goals for the vegetation once it is established.
Pg 3 Example: Western Federal Lands Highway Division
Expand the description of the WFLHD revegetation manual to state that it includes guidance for most if not all of the factors that should be considered and addressed to create a sustainable roadside plant community.
Research Page 4
Just because an indigenous plant grows in the geographic vicinity of the road it does not mean that it is adapted to the site conditions created by the engineering requirements of roads.
Pg 2 Approaches & Strategies
Plans and specifications should identify appropriate planting techniques for the species chosen to be used on a particular job.

General
Including Site Vegetation is critical to creating sustainable roads and road systems. However site vegetation must be considered in the context of soils, compaction, slopes and hydrology in order to create successful revegetation of road projects. This section should be expanded to address these items and perhaps give points for things like topsoil salvage – even if planting is not done.
Pg 1 Credit Requirements
Credit requirements should include planting bed preparation. The creation of cut slopes and fill slopes required in road construction radically change the soil and site conditions from those generally supporting native plant communities. The disturbed soil conditions must be modified to create conditions that will sustain native plant growth.
Pg 1 Credit Requirements
Topsoil should be salvaged and reused – a point should be given for salvaging topsoil. Topsoil may not be salvaged when it supports a major noxious weed population.
Pg 1 Documentation
Add project plans and specifications should identify locations for topsoil salvage and storage.
Pg 2
Approaches & Strategies
Plans and specifications should identify special techniques required in the salvage or replacement of the soils.
Pg 2 Approaches & Strategies
Plans and specifications should identify appropriate planting techniques for the species chosen to be used on a particular job.
