Goal
Provide access to views of pleasant scenery from the roadway.
Requirements
Any portion of the project is part of the National Scenic Byways Program (NSBP) (http://www.byways.org) meaning it has been designated by the U.S. Secretary of Transportation as either a National Scenic Byway or an All-American Road.
OR
Any portion of the project is part of a scenic route designated by a local government authority. Note that the NSBP considers any road nominated for the National Scenic Byway or All-American Road designation to be a designated State scenic byway.
OR
Provide access from the project to a designated area for vehicles to exit the traffic stream, stop and view the scenery. These areas are commonly called “scenic viewpoints” or “scenic overlooks.” They must be identified with signage conforming to 23 CFR 655 (the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, current revision) Part 2 – Signs.
