In the GGC countries (UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, etc), although studies have proven the great enhancement of soil properties when mixed with salt water (max. dry unit weight, optimum moisture content and CBR), road construction specifications prohibit the use of salt water in soil mixing and compaction and insist on the use of potable water and thousands of gallons of saline ground water are dumped into the sea through dewatering processes during major construction projects. The case may not be much different in the US (not sure).
The use of salt water in soil mixing and compaction should be encouraged in roads projects through voluntary credits.
