PR-2: Lifecycle Cost Analysis
Goal
Determine a pavement's total life cycle cost for use as a decision making aid.
Requirements
Perform a life cycle cost analysis (LCCA) of the project’s pavement structure in accordance with the method described in the FHWA’s Interim Technical bulletin, Life-Cycle Cost Analysis in Pavement Design (1998). The LCCA should be done for all pavement alternatives being considered. For preservation projects where no alternative design can be reasonably considered, perform the LCCA on the selected design. This LCCA may be done manually or by using the FHWA’s RealCost software available for free at: http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/infrastructure/asstmgmt/lccasoft.cfm. LCCAs that incorporate more than the pavement structure are addressed by EW-4.
